3-110 (Ye are the best of Peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah.)
This verse shows why the Prophet peace be upon him and the companions were the best nation, they ordered people to do what is good, they forbade evil and they believed in Allah. There is a tight bound between faith and calling people to good and forbidding them from evil, when you believe in Allah you know that it is your duty to call people to Him, and you know that any hurt that you may face you will be rewarded for.
3- 104 (Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: they are the ones to attain felicity.) Allah describes these people as the ones who attain felicity; they are the winners in both this life and the next.
7-163/166 (Ask them concerning the town standing close by the sea. Behold! they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath. For on the day of their Sabbath their fish did come to them, openly holding up their heads, but on the day they had no Sabbath, they came not: thus did We make a trial of them, for they were given to transgression. When some of them said: "Why do ye preach to a people whom Allah will destroy or visit with a terrible punishment?" Said the preachers: "To discharge our duty to your Lord, and perchance they may fear Him." When they disregarded the warnings that had been given them, We rescued those who forbade evil; but We visited the wrong-doers with a grievous punishment, because they were given to transgression.) These verses show that only the people who forbade evil were spared; the ones who committed the evil and the ones who knew it was evil but did nothing to try and stop it were both taken by the grievous punishment.
It is obvious from the above example that dawaa is good for you on a personal level, but it is also good for the whole community around you. Allah says: 11-117 (Nor would thy Lord be the One to destroy communities for a single wrong-doing, if its members were likely to mend.) it is not good enough for you to be good in yourself, you have to try and mend the community around you. It is this effort that you do that stops Allah from destroying the whole community. An example of this is in the story of Qarun when he went out with all his treasures and some people were tempted by this and wanted to have the same as him, but the people of knowledge with them reminded them of the afterlife and what lies in store for them there if they stay on their faith. So the people returned to their faith and they did not follow Qarun and thus were saved from the punishment that Allah sent upon him.
16-125 (Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.) This is very important, because when we do dawaa insha’ Allah we have to talk to people in a good way, in a way that they understand and accept. Our job in dawaa is not just to throw of the information on other people and just say “well here it is, you either accept it or you go to Hell!” In the story of Musa and Haroun, peace be upon them, Allah says to them: 20-43/44 ("Go, both of you to Fir'aun, for he has indeed transgressed all bounds; But speak to him mildly; perchance he may take warning or fear (Allah)") This is the Fir’aun who said 79-24 ("I am your Lord, most high") and they were still ordered to talk to him in a mild way so that he might remember and return to the right path. So remember when someone makes you angry during dawaa, you are not better than Musa peace be upon him and this person is not worse than Fir’aun.
We should make dawaa an integral part of our lives. We should call people to Allah in humility and remember 4-94 (Even thus were ye yourselves before, till Allah conferred on you His favours: therefore carefully investigate. For Allah is well aware of all that ye do.)
May Allah make us from the group who are 3-104 (inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: they are the ones to attain felicity.)
