In one of the posts that I have come across in a christian forum, one of the members was complaining that Islam gives a person a sense of ease…And I found it quite odd that this person took that characteristic of Islam as a disadvantage to this great religion rather than an advantage… As if a Religion to be true must be difficult to swallow and live with. I wonder..Should the level of one’s religiousness by measured with the level of hardship he experience in this life?! :confused:

Allah (SWT) in the Noble Quran continuously reassures us that His Way is meant to bring us comfort in this Life and in the Hereafter not hardship…and why not?! Isn’t He the Most Mericful, the Most Kind?

'God desires ease for you, and desires not hardship' (2:185);
'Truly with hardship comes ease' (94: 6);
'God will assuredly appoint, after difficulty; easiness' (65:7);
'Whoso fears God, God will appoint for him, of His command, easiness' (65:4);
'We shall speak to him, of our command, easiness' (18:88);
'God desires to lighten things for you, for the human being has been created weak' (94:28).

And in the hadith :

Anas bin Malik (radhiallâhu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, "Make things easy for the people, and do not make it difficult for them, and make them calm (with glad tidings) and do not repulse (them).” (Bukhâri,8/146)

Abu Hurairah (radhiallâhu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, “Religion (Islam) is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by offering the prayers in the mornings, afternoons and during the last hours of the nights.” (Bukhâri 1/38)

Moderation in religion, is truly the key to experiencing the real blessing of religion…

Last but not least, we do not forget the Glorious Words of the Almighty when He comforted our blessed Prophet peace be upon him...

Taha
We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed
But only as a reminder for those who fear [Allah]
A revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established
To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil.
And if you speak aloud - then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden.
Allah - there is no diety except Him. To Him belongs the best names.

Jazaak Allah khayr for this very important question…

A temporary happiness that brings about a pro-longed period of hardship is not really happiness..

& A temporary hardship that brings along a pro-longer period of happiness is not really hardship..

Although a person may think that by following his whims and desires he is taking the easy way in life infact he is taking the hard way.. … ”And whoever turns away from My remembrance – indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e. difficult] life…” (Noble Quran “Taha : 124”)

A patient remembering the benefits promised from taking a certain medicine will willingly bear the bitterness of that medicine for the sake of gaining those benefits …similarly a person living within the boundaries of religion will bear with patience leaving some of his whims and desires and will be very willing to give them up for the sake of gaining the greater benefit of living a life of ease and happiness in both this life and the hereafter..

And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty… (Noble Quran “al-Hajj : 78)

& Allah knows best…
